Taking the Shot - An End of a Televised Era...

I have the unique perspective of having paid an inordinate amount of attention to Monday night television for a very long time. Between watching the same episode of a television program multiple times per week, producing a series of bullet points, engaging in great topic-centric discussion and debate, and editing audio files until all hours, the last 6 years have been at least - fun. At best? The experience of a lifetime.

Two weeks ago, the LAST televised episodes of the hit Fox show, "24" came to an end. Fox provided us the last two hours of that program and once again, for the last time, the spinning wheels of podcast production began spinning to get yet another but the final double-header - ever - for "24".

This evening marks my last "attention" that will ever be paid to the review of a televised "24" and I feel incredibly grateful to have had the thousands of hours of work, experience and focused fandom that I've had. I've included the last two press notes about the last two episodes below and I hope that you'll take the time to listen to both the "24-in-60+!" episodes for Hours 23 and 24, as well as the hour-long discussion podcasts for the last two hours of the televised show that has taken up my love, attention and life for so many years.

To the people over the years that have helped me create a vast library of life, perspective and opinion, how can I thank you? You have literally helped me create things that help to prove how New Media can and continues to make a difference in business and life. Podcasting has literally changed the way I lead and live my life and I would be a very different being were I not to have it.

Enjoy these last two episodes, and be sure to stay tuned for the new video and audio efforts that will be coming to The 2GuysTalking Podcast Network over the next two months. In addition to two great contests (The I Hear Your Podcast Contest and the Musician's Corner Contest), we have a significant video effort that will literally change the face and push of 2GuysTalking over the next year.

It's been a labor of love and education that fuels me for a very long time - fuel that spills on to others around me to inspire them to try new things, to convey perspective and stories, and establishes a base for anyone that particiapes.

24 in 60+ - Season 8's Episode 18 of the Hit Fox Show, 24!

(The buttons of a special, technological wonder machine beep, and a ticking clock engages! A cartoony voice bellows, "24 in 60!")

Sexy Agent Walker has died! A truly somber way to start this 18th episode of Season 8 of the hit fox show 24! Jack has a touching moment with a nurse that is ushering him out of the operating room and is greeted by another nurse who has stolen clothing from an intern (clothes flap in the wind) so as to clothe now barefooted, bloody-shirted jilted post-coital hero Jack Bauer! The crisp silence is broken (incredibly loud, pointed cell phone ring) by the ear splitting sparkplug like ringing of his cell phone! (incredibly loud, pointed cell phone ring) It's Chloe with intel! She's sorry, he's angry, and there's a whole lot of ass-kickin comin' on! (The 2GuysTalking: 24 Podcast Tone rings out, a crowd cheers, delighted)

Basaev, the Russian father is due to stand trial less than a day after he was caught! Amazing! Jacks on his way to see and talk to him to find out who DID this to Renee, Dammit!

Ethan is back in politicians clothing consulting again President Taylor! she tells him that Logan has already on his way to talk to the slimy russian envoy!

Logan enthusiastically greets Nikoslavoimasonovobitch and SHINES! It's great to see local be a true craftsman with information! This information? THE RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT stopped the peace process including Nikoslavoimasonovobitch to stall the peace process by having President Hassan MURDERED! The price of LOGANs silence? Nikoslavoimasonovobitch must attend and paricipate in the peace talks! Ha! Back to the table for the Russians, (Soccer stadium crowd-like chat begins, a play-by-play announcer calls) Goaaaaalllll Charles LOGAN! GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!

Jack Bauer arrives, somehow freshly in court, where (Basaev) The Russian Father is awaiting trial. Along with Basaev in this early court session are his wife, daughter-in-law and grandson. Bail is DENIED! Counsel wants 5 minutes to chat with his client - Court is CLEARED! Only Bauer, Basaev and the BAILFF remain! The conversation? (whispering, loudly) JACK WILL KILL ALL OF HIS FAMILY unless he gets told who shot Sexy Agent Walker! (Bird singing sound effects) Basaev SINGS LIKE A BIRD! It was the Russian Government! Bastards! All of it, they were behind it all! The woman working with them planned it all! Her name? (drumroll) DANA/Jenny/Mole Walsh! >GASP!<>

Charles Logan (schoolboy-like giggle) is GIDDY AS A SCHOOL BOY!(schoolboy-like giggle) Why? President Taylor calls to thank him for getting the Russians back to the peace table with pen in hand! Whoohooo! (schoolboy-like giggle) Charles Logan considers his door to potential US prestige RE-OPENED! Ha! Idiot! (Glass Breaks)

Agent Cole suddenly is told by Chloe that in addition to his fiancee' being a liar, a murderer, an undercover operative who weasels her way into eveyrone's interests both in personal and business circles, a middle layer of lazy storytelling for the hit fox show 24 in season 8, AND one of the now storied too many who have become a mole in the realm of 24, she is also - guilty of working with the Russians to kill President Hassan and to smuggle nuclear material into New York to irradiate it! Bah! That's gotta' sting, man! Boy, some guys just can pick em, eh? (laughing)

Charles Logan learns of Jacks newfound involvement and his eye (Ricoche sound) - begins to - twitch (jerky voice) - like it did - several seasons agoooooo. Ahhhhhh! It's time to ask President Taylor to intervene and shut down Jack Bauer!

(Tires screech into place) Jack Bauer arrives at CTU and is about to put the literal screws to Dana/Jenny/Mole! Ahh, screw the screws! How about some old fashion fisticuffs! Jack introduces she who is also Starbuck into the luscious set decorator's table top inside interrogation room 5! (Cartoony BONK! sound) Jack bludgeons 1 (open hand smack sound) - 2 (open hand smack sound) - 3 (open hand smack sound) - 4 (open hand smack sound) times with the most striking open backhand since the days of McEnroe and Dana/Jenny/Mole - spills the beans! (Boung sound!) Well almost! For yet another initiated and verified immunity deal, she'll open up the faucet of foundational knowledge and bring the whole deck of cards crashing down! (Thund sound)

President Taylor is told that Sexy Agent Walker is dead - by Charles Logan?! Jack Bauer is intent on interrogating Dana/Jenny/Mole Walsh oh - and by the way, The Russian Government is completely behind the introduction of the Nuclear Material and y'know the - whole uh, murder of the President Hassan thing. That too. Bottom line! If Jack Bauer blows the whistle, the the peace process falls apart! (first portiong of boat sinking alarm initiates) Now or never, Allison!!! (last portion of boat sinking alarm screams, echoes)

The phone at CTUNY rings and - holy schnikes! It's President Taylor who is on her way and she arrives in a short 21 seconds! (Ricochet) The President arriveth! (President Taylor's voice) Thank you to all of you during this long day for your work, your vigilance and ability to never sleep, go to the bathroom and oh - for living in perpetual fear of the server room of death. (Sniffing) By the way, what is that rotting Parole Officer in the wall panel smell? (laughing)

She meets with Jack Bauer alone and makes the urgent plea to Jack to stand down.Peace is back on track. flowers are blooming, my complexion is clear, Ethan's back from yet another stroke, and hey - we're not irradiated! All is good, Jack! The greater good Jack! Come on, move on! Hassans Widow has! Everyone's doin' it. Was Renee really that great anyway? You had a piece Jack, now let the world have peace! Do you understand!? I'm sending you via helicopter to an out of the way air force base because of course that's the best place for you right now in the storyline. No escaping and going rogue, now. DO YOU UNDERSTAND, JACK?

Jack Bauer's voice says "yes" but his thirst for justice and to make the last 6 hours of the hit Fox show EVER also a hit require something with a bit more kick! (horse whinneys)

(Helicopter fades into the foreground) Falcon 1, a helicopter-based aerial recon lands at CTU to pick up one Jack Bauer, to head to McGuire Air Force Base for debrief! But first!? Jack Bauer-based Helicopter Hijack Hi-jinx! Whoohooo! It's time for Jack to go rogue - again! And as an intern is sent to a payphone to notify the Air Force that they need to neutralize on Jack Bauer in a helicopter, the boop beep boop beep continues...

Not because of what's provided on screen, but because of the always-fun banter between Tony and I. Pulling Out the Funny from the Constantly Tragic...

Hello: My name is Mike and I am a serial television series addict.

(crowd says, "Hello, Mike...")

For the last 5 years, I have been breaking down each and every adventure of the venerable, almost super-hero character, Jack Bauer and his hit adventures of 24. While our hour-long discussion 24-centric podcasts truly have fueled me for that time, there is a little bit of golden magic that I am so grateful to "endure" for each of those episodes.

It's called "The 24-in-60+!", a quick and humorous general "review" of each and every episode of "24", corralling all of the pertinent goings-on inside a 44-minute episode in just a few minutes!

This most recent hour of 24 helped me realize just what a gargantuan task creating something quick, funny and entertaining from the generally tragic is. You see, in the last 15 hours, Jack has been separated from his remaining family, shot at, tortured by electrocution, beat on (fists, phone books and twisted rebar remnants) incessantly, been lied to by every manner of person on the planet, survived a point-blank suicide bomber vest, had sex for the first time in over 3 and a half years, and held his newfound-just-had-sex-five-minutes-ago girlfiend as she lays dying from a sniper's bullet.

Oh yeah, and last hour, Jack survived and protected a family from a 12-man covert wet operations team assault in an effort to capture a visiting foreign dignitary (President Hassan of the clearly-fictional "Kamistan") who was eventually taken, and had his throat slit as showcased on a live, Internet anywhere/everywhere station for all to see.

And those are just the last two hours. :) As you can see there's something to creating a complete series of episode synopses that not only entertain, not only give the details you need to understand what you may have just watched, but that also entertain and make you laugh while conveying language, lexicon and FUN inside of our 2GuysTalking: 24 Podcast run.

It's all coming to an end soon! A bunch of horrible people usually crash it, and at times even hack it... So after a major breakthrough and a SUPER COOL GUY named Jon who has a great site that if I ever find my writing voice will be writing for... We setup REAL-TIME HONEST TO GOODNESS LIVE INTERNET RADIO!!! There will be several shows hosted from it eventually. The first will be the 24 LIVE Podcast, This Sunday. during and after the 2-2 Hour premieres of 24! on Jan. 14th and 15th! Thats right DURING the show will be live, we maybe a bit silent during the show, but we will be live!! And talking plenty during the commercials. Please join us for this HUGE INTERNET EVENT!!! And one of the most exciting thngs about this is we will be taking LIVE CALLS, through Skype, and at 310 929 7524. Now this is going to make 24 The Podcast abetter, new, exciting show!! Damn I love doing this show! Now in theory its very simple click the LISTEN LIVE link while were on, and it should open in your default music player. I suggest iTunes, but i believe any decent music player will work. I am very disappointed about these casting choices... i was very looking forward to Eddie Izzard being on 24, but apparently they are already killing people off this season! Eddir has been replaced by some guy I never heard of... And now this, I can't think of anything Chad was in that liked. BUT!!! I think this huge new cast, with all these high profile and respected actors means something big. My guess is there will be ALOT of death (as well as movie tie-in's) this upcoming season on 24. I think the deadpool should start now...

The writers, it seems, have come up with a doozy: Wayne Palmer, the deceased former president's brother who was with him when he was assassinated, has become the leader of the free world. How this goes down, nobody is telling. But here he (D.B. Woodside) is, the first time viewers see him in the Oval Office, and in typical "24" fashion, things are not good. America is already under some form of terrorist attack when the season opens, and Jack, who was last seen literally on a slow boat to China, has been behind bars there for 20 months. So the new president is ticked. Cassar coaches the actor on the gradations of anger — "Be angry at the situation, not the people" — and when Woodside, Peter MacNicol, who has joined the cast as a presidential special advisor, and Jayne Atkinson, who plays Karen Hayes, a Homeland Security official, perform the scene again, it is gripping. Source - L.A. Times July 13th - First eps is 6am to 7am. Buchanan is negotiating with 'Fayed' to get info on 'Assad'. Fayed will only trade info for custody of Jack. Jack isn’t in CTU custody. He appears to be cooperating with Bill and Curtis because he knows it’s the only way to stop the bad guys. Fayed tells Bill that in order for them to get to Assad, they have to lock Jack to a fence and then they'll be given Assad's location. When Fayed gets Jack he proceeds to torture him for what Jack had done to his brother. Fayed 'admires the Chinese handiwork', the many scars on Jack's torso, and his burned and scarred hands. Fayed beats and kicks Jack, then has him strapped to a chair and starts with a knife. Meanwhile, Morris is consoling Chloe, at work, because Buchanan gave the baddies Jack. Turns out 'Assad' is actually a good guy and 'Fayed' made it look like he was a baddie so CTU would kill him. Fayed set up Assad because he betrayed the cause. He tells this to Jack before he kills him, as all supervillians do, then steps out to take a call. Big mistake. Jack attacks the lone guard by biting his throat open. So as most of you know you can download 24 from MySpace now... This seems cool, until I realized even the free ones have a form of DRM on them that make it impossible to view in any other player than Windows Media. And there not even in HD. That sucks... Oh Well I guess I'll just buy the episodes. But in actual cool news.. Fox is going to replay 2 episodes back to back every Friday starting June 16th. Now that is cool... Currently I am compling information from our International Correspondent, Andy. Andy got to go to the London convention and got some footage and pics, can't wait!!! Howard Gordon, has been leaking little bits of info around the internet. So as I stated I will try to report what I find, when I find it. So heres some roughage... So I have found that intial exploratory casting has rumored that a 'JFK Jr.' type of president which should turn into a recurring role, and a young, super intelligent and attractive mid 30's woman are being shopped around to major stars to fill. This is interesting since we just heard that Gordon has just begun to write episode one, and I think it gives us a nice look into the 24 writing style. Now no actors have been named for the presidental part only fan speculation that I can see. Ed Norton (YYESSS!!), Patrick Dempsey, Kenny Johnson (that would be interesting), and unlikely but defintely possible, Matthew Fox. The one somewhat verified casting, and personally I think is awesome, is Regina King has offered the role for the above said super woman role.
